“What is a Wesley Nurse” ?
Sep 26, 2019 12:00 PM
From Signy: My presentation will address “What is a Wesley Nurse” and provide information about Methodist Healthcare Ministries (MHM), my employer. MHM is a not for profit, faith based organization headquartered in San Antonio. MHM provides a variety of health related services to the underserved of the Rio Texas Conference of the Methodist Church. I office out of the Methodist Church and provide health and wellness education and advocacy for the community, with an emphasis on our uninsured and under-insured population. I assist people in finding resources. Wesley Nursing is faith-based community nursing, providing a wholistic approach to address the care of the individual’s mind, body and spirit I have worked as an RN all my life, or so it seems. I grew up in Manitoba, Canada and moved to Texas a long time ago. Most of my nursing career was at Champ Traylor Memorial Hospital/Memorial Medical Center. I have worked for MHM, as a Wesley Nurse, for 10 years. I have two grown children, Maggie, who works for the DOD in Washington, DC and Thomas, USCG Rescue Swimmer. Thomas reports to Port Angeles, Washington state later this month. I am committed to my community and serve on the United Way Board. A recent accomplishment is the completion of a 200 hour yoga instructor class. I teach at the Methodist Church on Monday evenings. |
