The Texas 200 is an event
Our speaker will be Mr. Matt Shiemer who is President of a sailing club called the Texas 200. (see link below)
Matt is an engineer who lives in Austin with his wife and two daughters.
The Texas 200 is an event that involves a scheduled gathering of varied sized mostly shallow draft smaller sailboats, many hand made of wood, that each year in June put in at Port Isabel or Port Mansfield traveling over about five days up the Texas coast through the bay systems and Intercostal waterway, camping along the way ending up on Magnolia Beach. On a good year about half of the boats will make it the entire distance. It is fascinating, challenging and for the most part, a whole lot of fun.
Matt will be presenting through Zoom and should offer a look into a very unique now Texas tradition of sorts that ends up on the doorstep of our community each summer.
